"Portman's skilful use of wordplay, double entendres and hooks plays to the light-hearted quality of her songs, but the title track from Lovin' is one serious exception, a moving, passionate jazz ballad that speaks to her interest in exploring other directions."
Roger Levesque - The Edmonton Journal
Smart, funny and engaging, singer-songwriter Beth Portman performs a musical style she calls Acoustic Folk Jazz-a nostalgic infusion of folk, early jazz, swing, blues and bluegrass. With catchy melodic lyrics that evoke poignancy and humour, Portman's rich-toned powerful voice has been compared to those of k.d. lang and Maria Muldaur. Strumming her ukulele or guitar, this songstress delights audiences by touching on life's emotions and stories melding the past with the present.
Recently Portman released her debut solo album Lovin', now available on iTunes. The album was recorded at Homestead Recorders with the award-winning Barry Allen. Lark Clark of CKUA Network Radio co-produced. The recording project gave Portman the opportunity to work with a number of prominent Alberta musicians including Ann Vriend on piano and Aldo Aquirre of the group Bomba! on violin.
